Klosters Toy Newsletters August 2017 - Executive Summary:

 

A month ago, I made sales predictions for the second quarter for Hasbro and Mattel. Now that the SEC filings are available, we can now see that my forecasts were accurate - in the case of Mattel 99.3% accurate.

 

This is what I said:

 

Mattel: “According to National Buyers at twenty-seven leading retailers in 16 countries, Mattel shipments are estimated have grown 3.1% in the second quarter. However, if you back out the June shipments of CARS 3, Mattel’s performance for the second quarter is likely to have been flat."

 

Actual POS performance was as predicted and in terms of shipments as reported by the Mattel SEC filing, the prediction [in constant Dollars] was 99.3% accurate.

 

Hasbro:  “As you will see under the Action Figure and Fashion Doll readings further below, Hasbro has stagnated or declined in both worldwide. Sell-through is as near to flat as you can imagine. However, the company  has launched new products for the three movies impacting June and the rest of the year – Guardians, Transformers and Spiderman – and this will positively affect Hasbro’s shipments during the quarter.”  

 

Hasbro’s second quarter SEC filing totally bears out these predictions.

The Toy Manufacturer Newsletter  reviews Hasbro, Jakks, Mattel, Spin Master and VTech/Leapfrog – problems, opportunities, and other issues; provides worldwide sell-through information for each of these manufacturers updated monthly; and tables the top five IPs for Fashion Dolls, Action Figures and Learning Space at 26 leading retailers in 16 large toy markets around the world.

 

Both reports combined are priced monthly at $150 or singly at $75; yearly at $1200 both combined or $600 singly.
